How to eat an elephant.

I have some super big ginormous news. Bigger even than the biggest elephant. It will all make sense in a couple minutes, just wait!! ;-)

We are M-O-V-I-N-G!!!!

Here's our story:
(It's ok if you want to skip out here and scroll to the end in hopes that there may be a card. And there just might be one, I haven't decided yet. So, go ahead, its ok. No, really, it's O.K. My feelings won't get hurt. And besides, it's not like I can see you or anything, right.)

Oh good your still here!!! That's love, I tell ya.

Where was I??? Ah, yes, Our Story:

The hubster and I met while we both lived and worked in Austin. First came love, then came marriage, then came a baby in the baby carriage. (Actually, not QUITE in that order, but, shhhh, don't tell anyone.)

Well, knowing that my parents would be retiring to FL soon, we decided to pack up the family (now 4 of us) and move to Lancaster County, PA. to be close to my in laws. This is where the hubster grew up and where his parents still lived.

For those of you that don't know, Lancaster County is Amish Country, as in horse and buggy land. (The local grocer has posts to tie up the horse while you shop- I KID YOU NOT!!!) Very neat, very beautiful, but unlike ANYWHERE I have ever lived!! Oh yeah, and its FREAKIN COLD here!!! Today was nice and warm (as in high of 58) but it rained all stinkin day!!!

Anyway, here's where the story takes a turn for the worse. Two days before we loaded the moving van, my MIL was diagnosed with ALS (Lou Gerhig's disease) It was just heartbreakingly awful. Absolutely the worst disease ever. She was such a kind, happy, loving MIL and Nana. She passed away 11 months after we moved here and has been missed every single second since.

Then, just shy of two years after her death, my FIL was diagnosed with lung cancer. He fought it the best he could, but passed away 6 months ago, just 18 months after his diagnosis.

So, wow, talk about being surrounded by sadness and not so great memories. Towards the end of my FIL's illness, we knew we just didn't want to stay in the area. Knowing that, we knew there was only one place we wanted to go. Yep, you guessed it: Austin. Actually, we will be moving just north of Austin, but we will be close enough to smell the weirdness in the air, to eat at Central Market and to read about Leslie in the paper. And really, isn't that all a person needs in life??

Oh, yeah, about the elephant. Yes, yes.

To make a long story short (I will type this as fast as I can, I promise!!) while we were wanting/planning/hoping to move, this all happened sooooooooo fast. A friend called the hubster out of the blue with a job opening. He flew in for an interview Monday, negotiated terms Tues, accepted Wed and gave his two weeks on Thurs!!!!! He has to be there April 15th!!! I'm not sure when the kids and I will get there, but I'm hoping it won't be too long after that.

SO, again, back to the elephant. As I was sharing my feelings of being overwhelmed (and sick, none-the-less!!!) with my SIL (I want to give a shout out- this time to my SIL, Lil' G. Love ya, Lil' G!!!) she said to me, "Ahh, it reminds me of that story, how to eat an elephant." huh??? I had never heard of it either, but the moral is ONE BITE AT A TIME....

Ok, thank you kindly for your patience. Here is my card. I made it for the Hero Arts challenge over at Caardvarks. I had to make this a quick one (see above) and all things considered, I like how it turned out. I used a dragonfly stamp that I got at Michaels forever ago and the grass from SU's gorgeous set Inspired by Nature. I also used my sale-a-bration time, come on! ribbon from SU and my drool triggering brushed silver hodgepodge hardware from SU.

SICK!!!

"I cannot go to school today,"
Said little Peggy Ann McKay.
"I have the measles and the mumps,
A gash, a rash and purple bumps.
My mouth is wet, my throat is dry,
I'm going blind in my right eye.
My tonsils are as big as rocks,
I've counted sixteen chicken pox
And there's one more--that's seventeen,
And don't you think my face looks green?
My leg is cut--my eyes are blue--
It might be instamatic flu.
I cough and sneeze and gasp and choke,
I'm sure that my left leg is broke--
My hip hurts when I move my chin,
My belly button's caving in,
My back is wrenched, my ankle's sprained,
My 'pendix pains each time it rains.
My nose is cold, my toes are numb.
I have a sliver in my thumb.
My neck is stiff, my voice is weak,
I hardly whisper when I speak.
My tongue is filling up my mouth,
I think my hair is falling out.
My elbow's bent, my spine ain't straight,
My temperature is one-o-eight.
My brain is shrunk, I cannot hear,
There is a hole inside my ear.
I have a hangnail, and my heart is--what?
What's that? What's that you say?
You say today is. . .Saturday?
G'bye, I'm going out to play!"

I used to LOVE this poem by Shel Silverstein. The only thing I'd change today would be the last line. It would read:
You say today is...Saturday
Good, I'll stay in bed ALL day!!!

That is how I feel for sure- I have a massive sinus infection which makes me wonder if MythBusters has ever tested whether or not a person's head can actually explode from sinus pressure. I'm pretty sure it CAN!!!

I am so bummed though, because I have some super wonderful fantastic surprising news to share, but I am too weak to write about it now.

Stay tuned for this developing story.

Orange you glad I didn't say banana???

Those of you who have a kiddo, know a kiddo or have a relative, near or distant, that has a kiddo or at least, HAD a kiddo, have probably heard that knock knock joke once or twice. Or one or two thousand times.
Anyway, I never really ever payed any attention to orange, as a color, not a fruit, love the fruit, until my oldest son was born. It has been and still is his favorite color since he was about 2. (Sorry orange, I see you now, and I just ADORE you.)
Still here???
Well, using that fabulously fancy fancy pants paper again, I made this for the CP Sketch #7 over at Card Patterns. I am not sure of the stamp, it was a floater, wandering around my stamp stuff, looking for work. I think I bought it as a single of ebay. I of course used Martha's butterfly punches, love you, Martha!!! And!!! I dug into my silver SU hodgepodge that I recently splurged on!!! Forget diamonds, that stuff is my best friend, KWIM???

(side note: When I started this blog last month, I seriously wondered if I would be too shy to say anything on my posts!!!! hahahahahahahahha!!! As you can see, I'm not all that shy. Nope, not so much.)

Yes, yes, on with ths card already!!!

Courtney's Closet #35

Hello, hello!
I had sooo much fun making this card for Courtney's Closet over at Libby's Little Addiction. I have never made a single layer card (does it count as single layer even though I used some dp??) But, I was just as inspired by Libby's card as I was by Courtney's outfit!!! I love how clean and simple her card is, so I gave it a whirl myself!! woo hoo!!
This was sooo super easy, especially using this fabulously fancy fancy pants paper!! (say THAT 5 times, real fast!) I just love that color of orange- LOVE IT!! I used SU's branch out for the tree stump, tire swing and butterflies (oh, love those darling precious itty bitty delicate little butterflies, ahhh) and a small letter set from Michael's dollar bin.

(On a side note: I am in a super good mood today, probably because the sun is out, FINALLY, so I hope you are all having a wonderfully sunny spring day too!!!)

Branch Out, Baby!!!

I just LOVE this stamp set. LOVE IT!!!
I know it is waaaay too early for father's day cards, and it is sooo unlike me to do anything early, but rest assured, it will probably go out in the mail waaaay late!!! KWIM, jelly bean???
Anyway, I made this (loosely) based on Jen's SKETCH FOR YOU TO TRY, over at iheart2stamp. I actually love the way it turned out!! (is that rude of me to say??) I think the Not Quite Navy is possibly one of the most gorgeous papers ever and I love the way it looks with the Old Olive. The sentiments are from PPI's Pond Life. Love that set too!!

A quick card and a WARNING!!!!

Here's a quick card I made for a friend who just turned 40. I am in a little bit of a stampin' funk right now, so while I think this card went a little overboard with the pink, (whoa Nelly, step away from the pink and nobody gets hurt) I actually like the end result. Which leads me to the following WARNING!!!

This blog contains many many butterflies. The cards here are manufactured in a facility that processes, adores, and nurtures an abundant amount of butterflies. If you suspect you may be having an allergic reaction to so many butterflies, please click on the red x in the corner of this blog and seek medical attention.

I was actually surprised to see that out of the 13 cards I have posted so far, only 6 of them contain butterflies!!! I told you I was in a funk!!!

Alright, I hear ya, on with the card then... :-)

effortless beauty

hah!!!

This card wasn't the least bit effortless. In fact, I struggled with it. I made it for the Sketch #6 challenge over at Card Patterns, and boy, did I struggle.

I do have to say however, that I really enjoyed the challenge. I mean, I was seriously challengED!!! It really forced me to keep working, to keep trying, and to keep from tossing it in the trash and pulling out my hair!!! I guess that's why they call it a challenge, huh?!?!?

Anyway, I am not sure what I think of my final product. But, it is starting to grow on me!!!

I went through each and every one of the GORGEOUS, CREATIVE and WONDERFUL entries and was blown away!!! They are all so great, I am glad I am not responsible for picking the winner!! You should check them out too!!

hey dude

I was SOOOO excited that my hubby got me this stamp set by Kim Hughes for my bday. I LOVE, LOVE, LOVE IT!!! I have been drooling over it for sooo long now!!! How in the world did he know, I wonder. hmmmm. Maybe all the links I emailed him really paid off!!! :-)

This card was inspired by Kim's scrapbook layout. I also used DoodleFactory's cityscape stamp for the background. LOVE me some DoodleFactory, too!!!

This was so much cuter in my head, but both my kiddos and my hubby love it, so I guess it turned out OK. I think it would have been better if I had used brighter colors like Kim did. Oh well, maybe next time. Hopefully my nephew will like it since he will be getting it for his bday soon!!!

For Pap Pap

Here is the card I sent my Pap Pap for his birthday. I used the cracked glass technique, which I love. It is always neat to see non-paper crafters wonder how-you-did-it!!! Enjoy.

p.s. Can you tell I have been working on 'staging' my pics!!!

This...

is what I wound up making for my mom's birthday. Only hers said Happy Birthday instead of Thank You.

THIS is what I wanted to send her, but I just couldn't get it finished in time. It is inspired, of course, by Martha's Wedding magazine cover. Love, love, love you Martha. Wanna be you Martha.

I think I am going to enter this as my Spring Themed paper craft over at The {Paper Craft} Planet

I am SOOOO super excited to play along on my first challenge EVER!!! Woo Hooo!!! A blog I read, the fabulous Libby's Little Addiction at http://stampinlibby.blogspot.com/ has a weekly challenge that I always drool over. Libby's little pumpkin of a daughter, Courtney, is as cute as can be. The challenge is to be inspired by Courtney's outfit and is called Courtney's Closet (too cute, I know. I love it!!) Check it out here:

Happy Birthday Toots LaRoo!!

Hello, hello. I made this Mother's Day card for my mom last year. I just started her birthday card last night and hope to have it finished soon since her birthday is tomorrow and they live about 1500 miles away!!!! Ooops! Hopefully I will post it soon.

One of the best things about my mom is that she makes up funny words for things. We grew up thinking 'girksy' was a real word meaning gross. Kinda like, "I don't like the chicken, it tastes kinda girksy." Or, "The smell in that place really girksed me out." My mom says she thinks it might be a German word, as they grew up with some German here and there.

Anyway, I grew up being referred to as Gertrude or String Bean Sally because BACK THEN I was really skinny with extra long lanky limbs. (Nothing like poppin out two kids to plump me up nice and fat like.) My brother was often called Hank or Hevilwitz the Third, although we never knew a first or second Hevelwitz.

So, in our teenage years, we started giving my mom some nicknames of her own. My brother gave her the name Hardcopy Barb, which is somewhat self explanatory. He also gave her the name Toots to which I added the LaRoo. It is what I like to call her. She enjoys it too.

This one's for you, Toots LaRoo!

Happy Birthday

If you're happy and you know it, clap your hands...

I made this card a while back for someone who had just received GREAT news!!!
